Kaduna lawmaker dies four months after he was reinstated by Appeal Court

  A member of the House of Representatives representing Lere Federal Constituency of Kaduna State, Suleiman Aliyu, has died.    According to Daily Nigerian, the lawmaker died in the early hours of Tuesday, April 6, at the Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, Kaduna State after a brief illness. He was aged 53.   The deceased had in November 2020, won his case at the Court of Appeal which reinstated him as both the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the winner of the February 23, 2019 House of Representatives election for Lere Federal Constituency

Wanted drug baron nabbed in Nasarawa as NDLEA intercepts 1,330kg skunk in Edo

  Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA, have intercepted the most wanted drug baron in Nasarawa state, Sami Ashoko.   A statement released by the spokesperson of NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, states that Ashoko, 39, who hails from Ibilo in Akoko Edo area of Edo state, was arrested in Shinge, Lafia based on actionable intelligence. A team of operatives had stormed his warehouse in Lafia and recovered 100 bags of cannabis weighing about 1.1 tons or 1095.3 kg.   Babafemi said according to the Commander, Nasarawa State Command of the NDLEA, Justice Arinze, Ashoko is the most wanted drug baron who has been on the watch list in Nasarawa state. Arinze said this seizure has beaten the previous record of 45 bags weighing about half ton recovered in January 2021 as the highest singular seizure of cannabis since the inception of the Command in 1999. Polytechnic lecturers begin indefinite strike over new Salary scheme

  The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has declared an indefinite strike action today April 6 to press home their demand for the implementation of a new salary scheme for polytechnic lecturers.   According to the union, the industrial action kicks off today, Tuesday, April 6th.   Making the declaration in Abuja after an unsuccessful meeting with the Federal government, the National President of ASUP, Anderson Ezeibe, said asides from the new salary scheme, the union is also demanding payment of salaries and promotion allowances owed lecturers by some state governments.   Ezeibe added that the union will be open for dialogue with the Federal Government to resolve the issues raised.
