Arsenal have been eliminated from this season’s Champions League, after a resilient 1-1 draw against Bayern Munich in Germany.
The Gunners went into the second leg trailing by two unreplied goals and were looking to tear the history books. However, it was the hosts who grabbed the game by the scruff of its neck from kick-off, although the first half ended goalless.
Bastian Schweinteiger gave Bayern the lead, after good work from Franck Ribery down the right. Lukas Podolski levelled for Arsenal almost immediately, smashing in an effort from a very tight angle. The Gunners failed to build momentum and there was time for late drama, as Lukasz Fabianski saved Thomas Muller’s penalty.
In the other game of the night, Diego Costa grabbed a brace, as Atletico Madrid crushed AC Milan 4-1 (5-1) on aggregate, to qualify for the quarter-finals.
